The system's support tables, sometimes called lookup tables, describe the vocabulary of the system's coded data. As such, the content of these tables defines how the system is used and so it is important to understand the content of these tables.

Each of the support tables has a column used as a key, which contains the validated vocabulary, and a column which describes the key, the Descr column. The name of the key column is chosen to describe it's content. The Descr column always has the same name. It contains a short textual description of the vocabulary item represented by the row.

The Gombe-MI system strives, as much as possible, to have the semantics of the data be encoded in support tables instead of in logic embedded within the system. In those cases where certain values have meaning that is encoded in the system's logic this is noted in each support table's Special Values section. Special values are of two kinds: values that have meaning to the system as a whole and values that are coded within the data upload process which transforms the notation used in the field into the codes and structure of the Gombe-MI system.
